Why I am not a liberal

Why I'm not a liberal? The late literary critic Anatole Broyard(a transplanted Cantabrigian, by the way) said it all:

I had never been comfortable with abstract painting. I had no talent for abstraction, didn't see the need for it, or the beauty of it. Like liberal politics, it eliminated so many things I liked.(Kafka Was the Rage)

Nowadays, liberalism doesn't seem to have much room for a lot of things a lot of people treasure: God, patriotism, and common sense - to mention a few.
