Rumors Cambridge will ban Year of the Pig are hogwash, says Cambridge politico porkmeisters

From the Globe City Weakly,* this tidbit calculated to warm the hearts of Cambridge multiculturalists:

Ring in the year of the pig next Sunday , March 11 , with Harvard Square's first Chinese New Year celebration from 1 to 4 p.m.

Rumors to the effect that Cambridge plans on banning the local porcine fiesta out of deference to Muslim community sensitivities(cf. British Banks Ban Piggy Banks) have been branded as "hogwash" by an anonymous source at City Hall: "While we do not wish to lose our heads over the matter, as Cambridge politicians we have too much respect for pork to even consider such a step. It is also a swinish canard that we aim to include bacon in the ban on trans fats(by carving out a sub- category, "ham fats")."

*Footnote: The above Globe article on the celebration of the year of the pig refers the reader to HarvardSquare.com for more information. But the listing for the event is nowhere to be found. Was it "disappeared." Hmmmm - maybe the whole thing's no joke after all!
