Know what the problem is with immigration? There ain't enough of it! Know what the problem is with illegal immigration? No problema! Just make 'em all legal! Or so says Jeff Jacoby, columnist for the Wall Street Journal, oops, I mean the Boston Globe.
Now, señor Jeff is a dandy fellow and normally the only voice of reason at that loony left wing tract where he works.
But in his last two columns, Illegal immigrants are here to stay, and What if we deport them all,
Jeff has apparently been imbibing Wall Street Journal laissez faire moonshine(immigration shimmigration, let 'em all in, the market will sort everything out)

The illegal immigrants are here to stay because........ well, because they're just here to stay.
We can't put them all on buses because..........well, we just can't.
So, American workers, live with it! Anyway, it's all for your benefit. Cheap labor makes things cheaper. And those low prices sure come in handy when you're living on unemployment benefits.

Making a general comment here about this issue of immigration. The whole prospect of legalizing all that are within the country already is a sweet idea and quite frankly the most appropriate. The government has been for a while now collecting taxed from immigrants who are so-called illegal-yet working and have been working and procreating for decades now in our state and elsewhere. Waltham MA, for instance makes 45 percent of illegal or undocumented workers-hard workers at that. Other places that are also considered predominantly hispanic or immigrants-filled, such as Lawrence, MA, Lynn and Worcester have a greater new immigrant-population that is probably unaccounted for in all those local immigration debates.
I would like to say that a lot of newcomers often times have to wait a decade plus to get legalized due to a few years old backed-up Immigration proceedings ineffectiveness and inaccuracies. Errors are made. Certain immigrants are chosen and made legal by way of monetary briberies or xenophobic advantages(having people of their background facilitate the process and making it quicker than most) with INS workers from within. I witnessed it. I had to wait 12 years. Others 10+ or 16 years for some guy i heard of from Trinidad. So many people come here to make a better life for themselves, yet find themselves literally imprisoned; not being able to leave or progress at whatever it is they came here for at the first place. I believe that before all these bureaucrats and lawmakers talk about reforming and finalizing that Immigration Bill or what not, they should think about updating their systems and legalizing first of all those who have already been in the country, whose applications have been approved and who are still not able to move on with their lives because of a green card or visa process that takes forever.
Thank you.
